I recently had the opportunity to work with kidswear brand Il Gufo – I love childrenswear, and I just LOVE the history behind the brand. Il Gufo was founded in the 1970s by Mother of 3 Giovanna, who started making clothes for her children. Very soon all the children in the village were wearing her creations and so it began! I just love that the brand was built by a Mother, and despite it being HUGE today, Giovanna still, with her son and daughter, coordinates the work of all the people they have worked with for many years. Another thing that I love is that not only are the clothes designed in Italy, and that fabrics are sourced from companies representing Italian excellence – so you know the quality is second to none. I find that so many childrenswear brands these days compromise on quality, so it is wonderful to find another one that has beautifully made products with a perfect finish.
So where do I start – well Il Gufo have a huge range of products varying from partywear to casual everyday wear to fabulous puffer-coats and outerwear for extreme weather or even freezing London, basically they do it all.
I wanted to select pieces for the girls to shoot that they really loved, so I asked Soleil to help to pick out the pieces that she knew her and Winer would really love. Its no surprise that she totally fell in love with a super-fun and fabulous pink faux-fur coat, its a real statement piece and I thought a great addition to her wardrobe. She also loved the matching grey jersey dress with pink faux-fur pockets, and best of all, it also came in mini-size so Winter could “twin” as she loves to match her big sister. I cannot tell you how excited the girls were when the dresses and coat arrived along with a matching bag all in lovely stylish packaging. The girls wore the outfits the following weekend in Kensington Palace Gardens where we went to play in the Autumn leaves.
Soleil looks super-stylish and super-fun in her choice, the pink coat – see here – and is also wearing some gorgeous pink Il Gufo trainers – see here . Equally, I have to say that Winter looks totally adorable in her mini-me grey sweater dress – see here – and she was more than a little bit obsessed with the fun-faux-fur pockets which she could stuff with leaves.
Next up is my favourite, I absolutely fell in love with these navy-blue coats for the girls – see here. I always adore the girls in navy as I always think it’s such a chic look. I love how the beautiful ruffle neck-line on the coat and the matching ruffled pockets make it super unique, it’s the small details like this that make the coat really stand out. The girls wore these coats at the weekend out to lunch and so any people commented on how lovely they looked. The coats are made in wool fleece-style fabric which is so soft and cosy so I know they are going to be a huge favourite with the girls. The coats also come in a stylish grey colour – see here.
The final outfit the girls selected was an occasion-wear party dress – see here with a fabulous net-lined huge poufy princess-like skirt and a black ribbon sash-belt around the waist which ties in a beautiful bow at the back. The girls haven’t had the opportunity to wear these dresses yet but will definitely be wearing them over the Christmas season. Soleil’s dress also has beautifully matching velvet ballet-flat shoes which are just exquisite – see here. I must not forget to mention to the gorgeous matching headbands for both of them to complete the look – see here.
