If you follow my instagram you will know I am literally waiting for Spring (its practically all I talk about)…but for every little glimpse on sun we get, it seems to be swiftly followed by rain or worse SNOW!! Now I loved it when it snowed the first time (for the first day) but then to be honest I was over it, and now i am simply bored of the cold and am basically waiting for it to feel like Spring / Summer. I really want to be wandering around in flats and boho style loose dresses, feeling more like an “earth mother’ rather than a mother in so many layers I struggle to get my arms around my baby.

Now hands up I admit, I do have the tendancy to get overexcited and switch straight from winter clothes to a summer dress (normally far too early! I am one of those people in my sandals when some people are still wearing thick black tights and boots) so with all this crazy weather I wanted to buy a few new “transitional’ pieces. I wanted something that could work for our somewhat variable “spring”.  On my internet search I stumbled on the “Hannah” dress from Reiss, now I have seen “Hannah” dresses before BUT I have never seen one I actually like before, whereas this one was very “me” – I loved the colours, plus it would be perfect on colder days with tights and boots, or with bare legs and sandals in summer – the perfect transitional dress – a total winner right?

 THE “HANNAH” DRESS

Reiss had some really super pieces on their site so I went in store to take a closer look. There were so many gorgous things, but I REALLY REALLY fell in love with the Cherry skirt, I was instantly drawn to the colour as it is that fabulous neutral shade that works with everything and with every skin tone, and it was just so pretty, with its beautiful delicate knife pleats that fan out at the bottom giving a beautiful silhouette. I am a huge fan of midi skirts, i think its such a great length no matter what your height as it can skim high or low on your calf and still look good. I also loved the hint of metallic with the silver waist band, and honestly it was so beautifully made it looked like a crazy expensive designer piece at a fraction of the price,  PLUS I knew it was going to be super versatile, it could be dressed up or down and you could team it with a knit on those chilly evenings.

I often get asked ideas on how to style a skirt – and I know over the past few months I showed you a few wintery styling options with tights and jumpers, but this is such A PERFECT skirt that I thought I would show you 5 ways I would style it for a more summery spring look.

STYLED 5 WAYS

Firstly I teamed it with a lovely Reiss grey Maya crew neck jumper, for a more casual look – by the way I have to say I also LOVE this jumper, its super super soft and such a lovely fit, I often find it hard to find great fitting light weight basic jumpers but this ticks all the boxes. I love the skirt styled this way, personally I prefer they jumper tucked in and paired with my pink velvet Rochas flats, but you could even dress this look up with heels and wear it on an evening out.

Next I teamed it with Reiss’s Remy silk front vest, for more of an evening look with heels and my Chanel Perspex bag. The Remy vest is also such a fabulous staple, I love a good basic t-shirt as much as the next person, but its great to have an alternative, and this is just so chic and the colour is divine – I also will be wearing it under a blazer or a chanel jacket dressed down with jeans.

I easily converted this to my third look  which is more of a “day” look with the same Remy Vest, just by switching the heels to my Valentino Flats and wearing in with an old chunky  cardigan and the bucket bag.

For the 4th look i went with a logo t-shirt, to give it that young modern fresh look, although it would also look gorgeous with a plain t-shirt. I teamed it with heels but equally i think it could look cool with some trainers.

For my last look i dressed it up with my fail safe statement knit and belt, this would be perfect for a glam cool evening out, suitable for right now with this transitional weather. I really love this look, and think i will be wearing it this way for a friends birthday next week.

As you can see I TOTALLY LOVE the Reiss cherry skirt and will be wearing it a lot this spring and summer. Hope you enjoyed this post and it has given you a little inspo for skirt looks this summer. SHOP THE POST BELOW
